Diamonds on the Soles of our Feet (DSF) is a global initiative that brings together communities to connect with nature through the power of Citizen Science. Our global event takes place in 2025, celebrating Water Day, 22 March 2025, and running through Earth Day, 22 April 2025 and beyond, DSF aims to inspire environmental stewardship on a global scale. The project was pioneered by Professor Jaqui Goldin and her Limpopo team, with a mission to bridge the gap between science and everyday life.
At its core, DSF is a disruptor model that takes science out of the laboratory and into real life. Through innovative, hands-on learning experiences, DSF equips communities to engage with vital environmental issues that impact their lives. Using creative methods such as poetry, dance, storytelling, music, and art, DSF fosters a deep sense of curiosity and joy as participants explore the natural world. This unique approach, known as the “heart-beat pedagogy,” blends science with local culture, making learning impactful both inside and outside the classroom.
One of DSF’s key focuses is empowering learners to become environmental advocates. Through simple tools and techniques, learners are trained to monitor and record water quality in their local communities. This hands-on experience motivates learners to take responsibility for their environment and positions them as future scientists and environmental leaders.
Our Vision for Impact
DSF envisions a world where individuals and communities are empowered to protect their local ecosystems and water sources. By equipping young people with the knowledge and tools to become environmental stewards, DSF creates a ripple effect that extends from local communities to the global stage. We believe in blending science with real-life experiences, ensuring that environmental education is accessible, joyful, and transformative for all.
Join us in making a lasting impact and help us create a future where everyone, from learners to community leaders, takes an active role in safeguarding our planet’s precious resources.
Together, we can turn science into action and foster a global community committed to environmental care and stewardship.
